In this guide, we're going to explore what Fabric Chunk-Pregenerator is and why it can be beneficial for your server.

Fabric Chunk-Pregenerator is a mod that allows you to pregenerate your map. This process helps reduce lag during exploration, as map generation is one of the most demanding tasks for a server. Generating the map beforehand is an excellent way to avoid such latency.

How do you pregenerate your map?

It's quite simple. The mod offers three commands:

/pregen start - This command allows you to pregenerate the map in a specified area measured in chunks. The generated area will be square. The number corresponds to the desired "radius." For example, if you input 10, the pregenerated area will be 20x20 chunks. If the command is /pregen start 50, the area will be 100x100 chunks. Remember, a chunk is 16x16 blocks in surface area. If you want to generate an area of 1000x1000 blocks, input 32 as the radius. For 5000x5000 blocks, input 156, and for 10000x10000 blocks, input 312.

/pregen stop - This command stops the current map pregeneration process.

/pregen status - This command checks the status of the ongoing pregeneration.

A small note regarding pregeneration size: For a typical survival mode, a radius of 3000 blocks should be sufficient (which would be a radius of 94). Be cautious when scaling up from 3000 to 4000 as this increases the area from 9 million to 16 million blocks, nearly doubling the surface! Use caution and avoid setting excessively high values. Feel free to initiate the generation process during off-peak times, such as late at night or early in the morning when no players are active, to prevent server lag.
